Amalfi Coast for Christmas? If you are doubtful, just trust us: read below and you will start dreaming about your Christmas vacation in Italy.
First of all, let's answer one of the “frequently asked questions” we can hear very often during this period:
Is December a good time to visit Amalfi Coast?
It depends from
the climatic conditions, which we can summarize as follows:
Average High
Temperature: 15 ° C / 59 ° F
Average Low
Temperature: 10 ° C / 50 ° F
Average Sea
Temperature: 17 ° C / 62 ° F
Chance of Rain:
30%
Not bad, isn’t it?
If you are not
looking for the traditional Christmas market or the snow, the Amalfi Coast will amaze you with its
special effects: here the Christmas atmosphere makes everything even more
magical.
Watching the
cities in the evening, from sunset onwards, lighting up with many small fairy
lights is one of the
most exciting you’ve
ever seen.
As well as
strolling around the small towns. Each shop decorates its windows and a “presepe”
appears on each window. Do you
know what a “presepe” is? In English it is called "Nativity
scene", but in
Italy, it is something more than just a Christmas ritual. Families and shops
are used to do the presepe on the 8th of December (or earlier), many
miniature models of ancient towns, rolling hills, and people are placed in
pageant form with strong attention to the light design. The result is that every big or small
city becomes part of the real enchantment.
Something more and extraordinary for you: an underwater nativity scene is created every
year inside the Emerald Grotto in Conca Martini!
But furthermore, in every city, you will smell the scent of the typical Italian Christmas sweets in the streets, such as "zeppole" and "struffoli" (but if you are looking for a panettone, you will find that too, don't worry!). It is worth popping into a pastry shop and tasting them: if you are in Minori you must definitely stop at Sal de Riso Pastry Shop!
Numerous events are organized in each city, especially on weekends, including the public “tombola”, the bingo games which takes place in the main square of the village: you have absolutely to join one!
For New Year's Eve many people celebrate at the Spiaggia Grande in Positano, which becomes a sort of magnificent open-air disco, but if you prefer to celebrate the new year in a more luxurious and romantic way, what would you think about watching the fireworks from the sea, directly on one of our boats?
